世界の刺繍をめぐる旅

糸と針という比較的簡単な道具で自由に模様を表すことができる刺繍は、古くから世界各地で行われてきました。刺繍の表現は、地域や民族、階級によっても異なり、さらに女性が家族のために作る素朴なものから、専門の職人の高度な技術による複雑なものまで多種多様です。本展では、四季の情趣を表現した日本の刺繍、オート・クチュールの熟練の技が生み出すヨーロッパの華麗な刺繍、それぞれの民族で伝承された色彩や模様が表されたアジアやアフリカの刺繍など、約40ヶ国の刺繍の優品を紹介します。
